South Korea national manager Choi Kang-hee has left Arsenal forward
Park Chu-young off the official 23-man squad for the upcoming World Cup
qualifiers, adding concern about the player’s future role with the
squad.
Park will not participate in the friendly versus Spain on May 31 in Switzerland, and at least the first two matches in the final round of Asian qualifying for the Brazil 2014 World Cup, according to the Korea Times.
“I excluded him because of controversy over his performance and military duty. Although players’ performance matters, it is also important to have pride and be willing to make a sacrifice once they join the team,” Choi said at a press conference in Seoul Thursday.
Choi hasn’t ruled out adding the 26-year-old in the future, hoping that Park will clarify his stance on the postponement of his military service which has plagued the Gunners forward in recent weeks with the South Korean fans
and media.
