Five Arsenal Players Going To The Olympics

Now that Jack Wilshere has been ruled out of joining Team GB’s Olympic team, it looks like Arsenal will have five current Gunners going to play at the Olympics in August.
Arsene Wenger has already said that the Olympics could play havoc with Arsenal’s pre-season, and now that Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs are set to join up with Team GB Wenger will have to worry about either of them suffering from injury at the tournament. Gibbs is especially a worry given his former history of injuries and as his other left-back Andre Santos is also known to be fragile there is a danger of a nreve-wracking start to the season.
Another Arsenal defender expected to be at the Games is Switzerland’s Johan Djourou, but th
e fourth-choice centre-back is unlikely to missed, as is the case with the Korean striker Chu-Young Park who hardly played for the Gunners in his first year at the Emirates.
Young Ryo Miyaichi will be one to watch for Arsenal fans as he will be appearing for Japan, and it may even be good for him and Park to get some regular playing team before coming back to join Arsenal afterwards. I for one am looking forward to seeing how Miyaichi has matured after his time on loan at Bolton last season.
There is also a small possibility that Henri Lansbury could be joining Team GB. The 21 year-old is one of those “youngsters with promise” that is unlikely to make the Arsenal first-team and seems to be permanently on loan at lesser clubs. Perhaps the Olympics will be a chance for him to show that he is finally ready to step up to the mark.
All-in-all it will be an interesting competition for Arsenal fans…
