The transfer window is officially open. Unlike recent seasons, Arsene Wenger has already secured two of his targets in the form of Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski before the window even opened, adding depth to Arsenal’s firepower. Of course, as players come in, other players need to be offloaded in order to comply with the Premier League’s squad rules. Let’s look at them again:
Goalkeepers: Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianksi, Vito Mannone.
Defenders: Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny, Ignasi Miquel, Kyle Bartley, Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos, Carl Jenkinson, Sebastien Squillaci, Johan Djourou.
Midfielders: Alex Song, Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Gervinho, Abou Diaby, Ryo Miyaichi, Denilson, Henri Lansbury, Francis Coquelin, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thomas Eisfeld, Emmanuel Frimpong, Tomas Rosicky, Lukas Podolski, Andrei Arshavin.
Forwards: Robin van Persie, Olivier Giroud, Nicklas Bendtner, Joel Campbell, Park Chu Young, Marouane Chamakh, Carlos Vela, Benik Afobe.
The above squad consists of 39 players – if we consider players who are most likely to leave on a permanent basis in Fabianski, Squillaci, Lansbury, Arshavin, Denilson, Chamakh, Vela, Bendtner and Park, the squad gets depleted to 30 players. We now have this:
Goalkeepers: Wojciech Szczesny, Vito Mannone.
Defenders: Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny, Ignasi Miquel, Kyle Bartley, Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos, Carl Jenkinson, Johan Djourou.

Forwards: Robin van Persie, Olivier Giroud, Joel Campbell, Benik Afobe.
Now for the home-grown players rule in which we must have 8 players, Arsenal from this 30 man squad have:
- Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight ‘home-grown’ players, at the end of each transfer window.
- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who “irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday”
- Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.
